AIFF/WAV and Mac OSX DAO problems |
When I go to convert my flac files, to burn to disc, I have the option of AIFF or WAV...Can anyone tell me the difference, which is better etc...?
Also, I use a MAC and have just used iTunes for everything, and it works great, except for when I am burning a show, which needs to be DAO, or no space in between tunes. I have the gap set at zero seconds, but still have the problem of a quick little second where there's nothing in between songs. If anyone could recommend another player/burning program, or perhaps another solution, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Henry

Hi Henry - AIFF and WAV are exactly the same thing from an audio standpoint (computer-wise, the data is organized differently, but for burning purposes, you don't need to know that. :) ). I'd recommend AIFFs only because Mac burning programs handle them natively.
As for burning programs, though I don't particularly care for it, I never had any gap problems with iTunes...do you have the latest version? I really, really like Toast - check dealmac.com for prices; right now it's at $68 + shipping from one vendor.

excellent, thank you very much. I always thought that the AIFF might be better, as when I convert it to that, it has the iTunes icon on it, as opposed to the WAV which is something different, they both play on iTunes however.
I'll check on that program and see what I can do.
Thanks again for all the help.

Toast is a great recommendation. You choose the amount of pause for each song with zero giving a seamless continuity between tracks. The first song must begin with a 2 second pause choise as a burning requirement. I use toast with DAO for all my burning and am very happy with the results.
